FROM BENIN WITH LOVE…

English: At Busy Bee we are very proud of the different nationalities we have among our employees.  Recently we were in need of an individual to train a crew of cleaners on the specifics surrounding a restaurant. When it comes to restaurant experience, we didn’t have to look any further than our very own Comlan Gnomonu.

Comlan originated form the peaceful and quiet country of Benin in West Africa.  1 of 11 children, Comlan grew up and went to college in Benin, receiving a degree in ComputerScience in the process. After struggling to find a job in that field, Comlan decided to move to America in hopes of finding greater opportunity.  With his fluency in French (and couple other native languages) in hand, Comlan has found a way to assimilate into life in the USA. The Busy Bee management team first met Comlan while he worked for Do & Co. After speaking with him, the team learned that Comlan had worked his way up from dishwasher to nighttime supervisor in a short amount of time. His tremendous work ethic and dedication was obvious from the moment the staff first met him. Comlan has now worked at Busy Bee for a year and a half. He has always been an extremely valued employee and friend.

We spoke to him recently, in order to get more information for this article. He told us that the hardest part of living in America is the cost of living. He explained to us that in Benin, an individual could live a happy and peaceful life on only $200.00 a month.  He told us that he finds New York City to be extremely expensive.  To that I say: WELCOME TO THE CLUB COMLAN!

When we spoke to him, he also told us a story about when he first started working at Busy Bee. In need of workers to finish a big job, Comlan brought in a few of his friends who had also come from Benin. Later, when the supervisor found the job done, he asked if they would be interested in working for BB. Comlan responded: Yes, they love to work hard. But first, you have to feed them. They are a pack of hungry lions!

To finish our interview, we asked him if he had seen many lions, being from Africa and everything. He told us: Yeah, I’ve seen a ton!! I love going to the Zoo!!
